I Once Loved (A Poem)

I ONCE LOVED
by Sue Nolan

Things I once loved, I love no more
Peacefulness, I seek in every day
To keep grounded and be authentically me

Nights out dancing with friends and loud music
Traded for quiet evenings and early to bed

Sleep-ins, once a must, not anymore
Early mornings steeped in gratitude for the gift of another day

Gathering in groups with laughter and frivolity before
Now meaningful connections with just one

Staying home, hiding a painful heart and soul
Swapped for nourishing outings amongst those with good attitudes

Television viewing, evenings on end
In my garden or reading now instead

Running mind, ruminating thoughts, cast aside
Meditation and mindfulness in that space

Trying to please others, a price tag too high
Let ‘No’ become my good friend

Unkind opinions and perceptions
Not my problem to take on

Things I once loved, I love no more
Peacefulness, I seek in every day
To keep grounded and be authentically me
