Forever In The Middle
By Sue Nolan
There’s a place, in the middle,
That’s where you will find me.
Not over here or over there,
Just in the void in between,
That’s where you will find me.
T’was created from a love,
Some can never feel for me,
I am suspended in the middle,
That’s where you will find me.
Not wholly belonging,
To this camp or that one,
Never feeling I fit in,
Forever in the middle,
That’s where you will find me.
It hurts my heart,
Paying it attention,
Tugged in both directions,
But floating aimlessly,
In the torturous middle,
That’s where you will find me.
Why is this so?
You may very well ask,
As I myself, have questioned,
Many times before,
And find myself spinning,
In that endless middle,
That’s where you will find me.
For I am,
Forever in that middle.
I am,
Too white to be black,
And too black to be white.
Forever,
In that middle.
