Sitting on a fence post,
dainty as a fairy.
Long tail high in the air,
flitting this way and that.
Always alert, at the ready,
trusting in the wing.
Admirers watch from afar,
listening to your chirpy ‘tsst’ and chit.
Wondering how your spindly legs,
support your puffball body.
Your brilliant sky-blue dazzles,
your black blends in.
The family gathers round,
offspring, and mouse-brown jenny.
You dance with your lady,
in a tango, so familiar.
You are Superb, indeed,
Little Wren.
